New/Old House
Josh and I got engaged the end of February, and didn't get married until Sept. 2. That is SIX months. When we would tell everyone we were engaged they would get excited and ask us when and when we would say Sept, the smile would fade and they would say "Oh that's a LONG TIME, why are you waiting so long." A big reason why wanted to wait until Sept., is because Sept 2, is Josh's Mom's birthday. For those who don't know Josh's mom passed away and when he was 14, so it just seemed like a fitting day. BUT another reason we decided to wait, was because our house was under serious construction. We had no carpet in the living room, no cabinets or counter top in the kitchen, the bathroom wasn't even sheet rocked, let alone furnished, and the other rooms were in serious need of a good paint job. The house we are living in is the home my family lived in from the time I was 10-16, however, when we moved out, my dad wanted to fix it up before he sold it so he started tearing it apart, and then got a new promotion at work, and became really really busy so he had no time to work on the house so it basically just SAT for TWO years. It was in serious need of a little TLC when we got it. So we got to work right away. Lucky for us Josh is quite the handy man, and we have quite the handy family as well. Josh's uncles owned Shaw Brother's Construction so not only did they bring lots of knowledge, but they brought lots of TOOLS AND SUPPLIES as well. The first job we tackled was the bathroom, being as it needed the MOST work. We (I say it as if I was a big help, rather I kind of just hung around and handed out screws when it was needed.) hung the sheet rock, and taped the seems and then mudded and textured the walls. Then we got to work on priming all of the walls and ceilings. We started with my old bedroom. For some reason at the age of 13 I thought it would be a brilliant idea to paint my walls a BRIGHT, IN your FACE, LIME GREEN. You couldn't even walk in the room without going blind. So that room was our next project being as it took a few coats of heavy duty primer. In the kitchen we had to move a few outlets before we painted. My dad had come over to help Josh and me and his Aunt Chelsey had went to the store for a minute, when I came back, we had NO KITCHEN WALL. Josh and my dad had gotten a little tired of trying to work the cords around the sheet rock so they had just KNOCKED it all out and decided to hang new. NEVER leave those two alone together. We then primed and painted. I did NOT want white in my house so none of our walls are white. The only "white" we have is an off white for the ceilings and I love it. My kitchen is chocolate brown. My living room has a sage green accent wall. Bathroom is a light blue. My bedroom has a deep red accent wall and all the other walls in our house are a cream color. I believe the actual name was "BELGIAN WAFFLE". I LOVE it. Josh and his dad CUSTOM built and stained all of our cabinets and his dad also CUSTOM built our counter tops for both the kitchen and bathroom. Josh and my dad installed the hardwood floor in the kitchen. We had new carpet installed in the living room, and my dad with his great connections provided all of our fixtures (ie sink, tub, faucets, etc.) My Grandpa Smith was right there to help whenever needed being as he is quite handy himself as well, and he really helped us out of a bind when we had some electrical problems. It looks great. We still have work to do but for now I just ABSOLUTELY LOVE my NEW/OLD House. Here are some Before and Afters...
