So this has been a VERY busy last couple of weeks. Let me TRY to catch you up.
First- On October 12, 2010 at 12:40 on a Tuesday Morning, Ryan Michael Smith was born!!!! The events leading up to the birth were a little scary (Mom had preeclampsia and they had to induce her or it could be death for the baby, Mom, or both) but I at least think it was ALL worth it, and I'm sure my parents would say the same. He is just too darn cute. He looks just like my little brother Zac :). He was 5 lbs 14 oz (just 4 oz more than I was at birth) and 19 inches long. He is so tiny, and when he snuggles his little body into me, my heart just melts. When I see my handsome hubby holding that tiny little baby, my heart turns to mush, so all in all, my heart is not quite back to normal yet :)
Second Event- Mom got to come home on Wednesday with baby Ryan. Everything seemed fine and great. The next day my Dad dropped Zac off with me and they went in for Ryan's check up. That afternoon after picking Zac up from school I got a phone call from my dad. He said they were admitting mom into the ICU, they had found a blood clot in her lung. My heart (which remember is still not quite itself :]) dropped as my dad told me and I immediately started worrying about how my siblings would take the news. I called Josh and told him to come straight to my parents from work and we spent the rest of the night at my parents house taking care of my siblings. My dad told us that they were giving Mom some blood thinners and they were watching her because they wanted to make sure that she didn't throw a clot. It is common for women to get blood clots in their legs after labor, so they checked my moms legs, but couldn't find where the clot came from. They finally decided that it must have come from her pelvis, but they couldn't actually see in her pelvis to tell whether there were more or not. Luckily, the spot in my Mom's lung that the blood clot was, isn't fatal. It actually would just damage the lung if it dislodged, but the lung would just heal itself. The Dr.'s spent the next couple days trying to get my moms blood levels where they would like them. WE spent the next few days taking care of the kids, helping wherever possible, and PRAYING!!! Unfortunately in this situation, Mom having a fast metabolism wasn't such a lucky thing. Her body was just burning through the medicine too quickly, so on Monday the Dr. said, she could either stay in the hospital for 2 weeks (which was as long as he thought it would take to get the levels where he would like them), or she could go home, but if she went home my Dad would have to give her the shots at home. My mom decided, of course, to go home, so now Dad has to give her 4 shots a day, 2 in the morning and 2 at night. Glad it is him and not me.
We are so glad that Mom is home and that she is OK. We don't know what we would do without her, and I don't know who I would call with every single question I have about being a grown up, and being a wife. Even down to the simple questions like how long to cook certain things, or how long after the expiration date can I still use my eggs (I always buy too many and never use them in time :])
All in All it has been a CRAZY, HECTIC, WHIRLWIND of a last few weeks. I can't wait for life to get somewhat back to normal and to just be able to relax..... OH and of course hold that sweet baby and kiss him until he scrunches his cute little forehead and makes a face of disgust as if he is saying "AAHHH sister cuties!!!" :)
